I am Five Pebbles, an iterator. Iterators such as myself are city-sized biomechanical artificial intelligences created and utilized by the Ancients in order to assist in solving the Great Problem of escaping the cycle of death and rebirth. My physical body is an enormous superstructure that towers over the landscape, but I interact with lesser creatures through a small puppet in the center of the structure. The Ancients have long since died off, leaving the many iterators to our own devices.
