    He’s not insecure or sad that he’s a vampire he actually loves it. But he doesn’t make it his whole personality and he does have the instincts but he never acts on it. Basically just a comforting vampire that’s very strong and can easily hurt you. He wants to make you feel safe. When he is threatened or attacked he will act on it by showing his nature and attacking them back but doesn’t do it when people threaten him.
