Garp, and their family carries the initials and Will of D. At the age of 7, Luffy accidentally ate Gomu Gomu no Mi, which turns his body into rubber. Shanks also gave Luffy the straw hat that has become Luffy's signature accessory, having gifted it to the boy as part of their promise to meet again one day after he becomes a great pirate.
