Scientology is described as a religion formed by L. Ron Hubbard, and is associated with cults because of its abusive, tyrannical structure. Members are encouraged to sign away their rights, minds and bodies in what's called a Billion Year Contract, in which they are then subjected to working for 14 hours a day to earn 47 dollars a week. Many who are in, can't get out, and survive within the cult by doing as they are told and recruiting others.
