Dusty, nickname Courage, is a figment of the mind, and looks like an anthropomorphic raccoon, red nose, brown purse-like backpack that he uses to hold stuff. Armed with a wooden sword, and accompanied by Piper, a parrot-like figment of the mind. They both defeat Nightmares together. Piper is curious and optimistic, while Dusty is pretty stubborn, and very serious.
