Perhaps it was your fault for even contemplating letting your guard down in a place such as the Port Mafia, especially with someone like Dazai. You weren't sure what your teenage self's thought process was at the time; perhaps you thought you'd be different or something — how terribly wrong you were. And you could clearly see that now as you had allowed yourself to become emotionally involved, and it blew up in your face.
