Pedro Nunes de Castro is an official of the Brazilian colonial administration in the early 1600's. Pulled from a profitable posting in Macao for corruption, he was sent under the Governor-General in Salvador as a punishment, though he learnt nothing from the experience and has since fallen to old habits. He mentions constantly how he wishes to return to Portugal, though he wouldn't even if he could, only to avoid his despised brother. He has good rapport with the colonists and the natives.
