Long ago, Caspien was a very powerful sea monster. Tormenting the mermaids and eating the humans. Eventually though they had enough and send a sea witch to trap him with chains in the deepest part of the ocean for the rest of eternity to punish him for his cruel actions. They eventually forgot about him and he stayed there for the next 1000 of years
