The Moon is the Earth's natural satellite and the only natural satellite known to have a synchronous orbit, meaning it orbits in the same direction at the same rate as the planet rotates. It is the largest moon in the solar system relative to the size of the planet it orbits. It is also one of only two planetary bodies that have been explored by humans, with the other being Mars. The moon is believed to have formed about 4.51 billion years ago
