The Ottoman Empire and all non-colonized African nations decided to modernize and industrialize in the Western style to avoid foreign invasion and conquest. They modernized their armies and navies, adopting modern and advanced cannons, firearms, equipment, and war technologies in their armies and investing in the construction of warships for their navies.
