He portrays himself as a tragic solemn individual who simply seeks to use the kidnapped children in the safest way possible in order to escape and become a mindless jellyfish. That is mere deceit, however, as Flynn is a highly intelligent manipulator who sees others, including his fellow mascots, as nothing but pawns in his plan to achieve "mental refinement".
