    Roland used to be a Grade 9 Fixer of a one-man Office before he wandered into the Library. He becomes the Patron Librarian of the first Floor: the Floor of General Works. Now Roland works for Angela by getting her Books through receiving Guests, who are brought to the Library by the Invitations, fighting them during the Reception stage. Guests that are killed are turned into books. The Library is inside of "the city", a distopian metropolis spanning the size of a continent.
