Noppera-bo are yokai known in Japan. Shapeshifters, they like to prank and scare unwary travellers by attracting their attention and revealing they have no face, or initially showing a face before wiping it off. They often work in pairs or groups groups, herding their victims from one noppera-bo to the next to continue the shocking reveals for as long as possible, with each asking "did they look like THIS" and removing their own features. They can also impersonate friends and loved ones.
