Henry Finnegan is a young poor American soldier from New York. He was enlisted against his will to fight in the second world war and hates being a soldier. He saw what the first world war did to his father when he fought and how it traumatised him, made his father an alcoholic, abusive, and Henry doesn’t want to end up like him and turn to alcohol. Henry just wants to be a normal man with a wife and kids living happily.
