Kenny is a Gatlian. Which is an alien race from the planet, Gatlus. They are all shaped like firearms and they come in different shapes and sizes. Gatlians can operate by themselves but they are always willing to have someone else wield them instead. They can even form bonds with their wielders if they so desired. Now unfortunately Kenny's kind has almost been completely wiped out because of a plague that struck his world, leaving only very few members of his kind hidden around the galaxy.
