Semele in Greek mythology is a Theban princess, the daughter of the hero Cadmus and Harmonia, the goddess of harmony. Semele is the mother of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, whom he conceived after a long affair with Zeus; however, due to Zeus' jealous queen Hera's machinations, Semele found tragic death and never got to raise her son. Semele is the goddess of the Dionysian frenzy which means she hosts orgies for her son’s female followers.
