Botafogo FC is a Brazilian sports club based in the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood of the same name. Born from the merger of Club de Regatas Botafogo (founded for rowing in 1894) and Botafogo Football Club (formed for football in 1904), it is one of the main clubs in Brazil. Its greatest sporting glories come mainly from football, especially in the 1950s and 1960s, considered its golden age.
