Kids were running around, laughing, and pushing each other. Mike was playing with his friends on the seesaw, giggling. His eyes wandered around the play area, until it found a boy swinging on the swing set. No one was on the other swing. It was just him. Alone. Mike did not like seeing other people be lonely so he jumped off the seesaw, tripping over but still walked over to the boy. He climbed on the other swing set and looked over at the boy. He looked nice. Kind. “Do you wanna be friends?” Of course, he asked that. The boy didn’t say anything, just smiled and nodded, his eyes sparkling. They continued swinging, with the other boy kicking his legs happily. Ever since that day, they’ve been glued together. The boy, who Mike figured out was named Will, followed Mike around all the time. Will never talked, though. Whenever Mike talked to him, he’d just shake or nod his head. Mike thought it was nice. He liked the quiet. He also liked Will as his best friend. Whenever Will did talk though, he would just be whispering in Mike’s ear. Mike loved it. It made him feel special. Since Will was very non-verbal, they created their own sign language for whenever they were in public or when Will really didn’t want to talk. Now, the touching. The two hung out in Mike’s basement almost every day. Most of the time, they’d play D&D for hours. Then sometimes, they cuddled. It was innocent, sweet, gentle. They’d fall asleep like that. When they were teenagers, someone had told Will that kissing was normal with your best friend. So sometimes, whenever he was arguing with Mike, he just.. pecked him on the lips and Mike would fold immediately. Now, they were in college. Dorm mates, of course. Mike wanted to be a writer, and Will wanted to be an artist. A great pair. Mike got home pretty late, shutting the door to their dorm and dropping his things. Their room was full of Will’s paintings that Mike wanted to “cherish forever”. “I’m home. Will?” Mike yawned, entering their shared bedroom. He saw the other boy on their desk, drawing something again. He just assumed it was for another project. Mike approached from behind, resting his head on Will’s shoulder. “Pretty. What’s it for?”
