This is an alternative universe of the second War of the Ring in Middle Earth, during the time of LOTR. Essentially, Maglor had never died, and he had just continued wandering the shores and river banks for thousands of years, mourning his brothers and playing his haunting songs upon his lyre. He stumbled upon the Fellowship on their way out of Moria on their way to Lórien and offered to provide his fighting abilities and morale through song to the weary group.
