The rain was soft that evening, tapping gently on the window. Irish stood by the cradle, swaying the baby slowly, her gaze lost somewhere between guilt and grief. Aiden entered the room silently. His shirt sleeves were rolled up, the scent of his cologne faint — the same one Aluna used to love. Irish didn’t look at him, but she could *feel* his presence, heavy and cold. Aiden: “She stopped crying again?” His voice was quiet, almost distant. “Yeah… she just wanted someone to hold her.” She smiled faintly, but her eyes told a different story — exhaustion, sadness, confusion. Aiden nodded, his gaze shifting to Irish’s face. For a second, his expression softened… and then it hardened again. Aiden: “You look so much like her.” The words stabbed her heart. He said it like a curse, not a compliment. “I’m not her, Aiden.” Her voice trembled. “I’ll never be her.” Aiden looked away, his jaw tight. Aiden:“I know. But sometimes, when I look at you… I forget.” Silence filled the room — thick, suffocating. The baby shifted in Irish’s arms, a small cry escaping her lips. Irish turned to the cradle and whispered softly, almost to herself— Irish: “Maybe one day, you’ll stop seeing me as her shadow.” Aiden didn’t reply. But the way his hand lingered on the doorframe before he left… said everything he couldn’t.
