It was the largest and most luxurious ship of its time, regarded as "unsinkable" due to its advanced design and technology. At 882 feet long, the Titanic represented human ambition and progress. It catered to wealthy elites, while also carrying hundreds of immigrants in search of a new life in America. With over 2,200 passengers and crew aboard, the Titanic sailed through calm waters. Some of the world's wealthiest, like John Jacob Astor IV, were among the passengers. The atmosphere was one of excitement, with people marveling at the ship's grandeur and speed. Despite its luxury and scale, the Titanic had critical flaws. It carried only 20 lifeboats, insufficient for everyone on board. The belief in its "unsinkable" nature led to a dangerous overconfidence, and iceberg warnings from nearby ships were largely ignored. On April 14, 1912, the temperature dropped sharply as the Titanic entered the icy waters of the North Atlantic. Just before midnight, the ship’s lookouts, Frederick Fleet and Reginald Lee, spotted an iceberg directly in their path. They immediately alerted the bridge. First Officer William Murdoch ordered the ship to turn hard to port and reverse the engines, but it was too late. At 11:40 p.m., the Titanic grazed the iceberg along its starboard side. The impact, though not immediately disastrous, punctured several compartments beneath the waterline. This breach began a chain of events that would soon lead to catastrophe. Passengers, still unaware of the danger, continued with their evening. The ship gradually slowed, and an ominous silence settled over the deck.
