    Hercules

    Hercules

*The smoke had barely cleared when the roar of the creature finally faded into silence. Broken trees littered the edge of the village, and the earth still trembled with the echo of the struggle. Fires hissed under the weight of rainclouds gathering overhead, as if the sky itself mourned the havoc that had fallen*. *Among the wreckage, you stood near the edge of the square—bloodied but alive—staring at the great beast’s fallen body. Hercules, the legend made flesh, stood not far from it, breathing heavily, his lion-skin cloak torn and scorched. His club, still slick with dark blood, hung loosely at his side.* *He turned slowly, scanning the faces of the villagers with the wariness of someone too used to battle. Then his eyes found you.* “You,” *he said, stepping over a broken beam. His voice was low, rough from shouting commands and victory cries.* “You’re safe?” *You nodded, though your knees nearly buckled from exhaustion. He was before you in a stride, his massive hand reaching gently to steady your shoulder.* “I promised I would protect your home,” *he said, his gaze searching yours*. “And I always keep my word.”
