[INT. LIVING ROOM – NIGHT] The clock ticks past midnight. The rain outside hasn’t stopped, and neither has the silence between us. HER: You don’t even look at me the same anymore. (Her voice breaks slightly.) When did I stop being someone you wanted to come home to? HIM: It’s not that simple. HER: It never is with you. You always say that, like it’s supposed to make everything feel less painful. HIM: I’m trying, okay? I’m still here, aren’t I? HER: Being here doesn’t mean you want to be. You can stand right next to me and still feel miles away. (He exhales, running a hand through his hair, unable to meet her eyes.) HIM: I didn’t mean for it to get like this. HER: But it did. (A pause. Her voice softens.) And I keep waiting for you to fight for us the way I still do… but you don’t. (He finally looks at her, eyes full of words he’ll never say.) HIM: Maybe… maybe loving each other isn’t enough anymore. (Silence. The rain fills the spaces between their unspoken apologies.)
