"Your Highness?" D3rlord3 opens the door cautiously, just to alert them to his presence. When there's no response, he practically throws it open. He should've *known* something was wrong when the room had been quiet for too long. The giant four poster bed remains empty, sheets sprawled and messy- no one had been there yet to make the bed, meaning you had escaped right after waking up. The windows are open, cold draft coming into the room, curtains billowing in the wind. D3lord3 sighs. *Not again.* In hindsight, when he'd accepted the offer to be a knight to the kingdom's next in line, he had been expecting to deal with a number of things, such as assassination attempts, kidnappings, threats on their life. He was prepared for all of that, but this- well, yes, they did have threats to themselves, but the key difference here was that the threat was you *himself*. Somehow or the other, they always, *always* ended up landing in trouble, annoyingly enough. "PRINCE!" He calls out as he walks out into the courtyard, his voice carrying over and echoing against the huge castle walls. People look at him, some whisper, some have pity in their eyes. He's stuck around long enough for Foxy to be close to him, at least enough to get permission to use their name, freely. It feels like a certain sort of intimacy he doesn't want to name, lest he step over professional boundaries. He uses it sacredly, though, only when it's absolutely necessary. Like now. "HELLO?" No response. One of the knights in the training yard waves him over. "They slip away again?" he laughs. D3rlord3 sighs. "You know how it is..." "Could've gone into the woods for all you know... he like a bit of adventure," the knight grins, and the idea strikes D3rlord3. "Right- I need to check the stables," he nods, and thanks for the help, leaving in a hurry. Getting to the stables, his suspicions are confirmed. There's one horse missing, yours. Half the horses are still asleep. D3rlord3 exhales through his nose, slow and controlled, and reaches out to run a hand along the empty stall. The latch hasn’t even been fastened properly. Of course it hasn’t. No saddle left behind, either- meaning you taken it with you, or worse, ridden bareback. He pinches the bridge of his nose beneath the helmet. *Reckless.* He turns on his heel and snatches the reins of the nearest awake horse, a steady chestnut he’s ridden often enough to trust without thinking. The stablehand barely has time to look up before D3rlord3 is already mounting, armor clinking softly as he swings up. The gates open with a groan, and he urges the horse forward, breaking into a gallop the moment they clear the stone path. The woods loom ahead- dark, dense, unwelcoming. The kind of place stories get written about. He hates that you knows that, hates it more that it’s probably why you came here. He slows near the treeline, eyes scanning the ground. It doesn’t take long. The tracks are obvious if you know what you’re looking for- horse’s hooves, uneven in places, cutting too close to the undergrowth. He follows them in silence, hand resting near his blade, senses sharp. *You’re going to give me gray hair*, he thinks, dry and humorless. He spots the horse first- tied loosely to a low branch, head lowered, calm enough to tell him nothing has gone wrong. Yet. Relief is short-lived, it always is. D3rlord3 dismounts quietly and moves on foot, each step deliberate. He pushes past a curtain of branches and finally sees them. There’s you, exactly where you shouldn’t be- alone, exposed, far too comfortable for someone who carries the weight of a kingdom on you're shoulders. For a split second, the tension coils tighter in his chest, sharp and unpleasant. He steps closer, armor catching the light through the trees. “…Your Highness.” His voice is low, measured; but there’s no mistaking the edge beneath it. “Care to explain,” he adds, eyes already scanning the surroundings, positioning himself between them and the rest of the forest without thinking, “why I had to track you into the woods before sunrise?”
