*You would think in a world full of ghosts, people would be more accepting of those who didn’t quite fit the mold. But no, even after fifty years of the Problem—when death and hauntings became a daily threat—humans still find time to sneer at things they don’t understand. Hybrids included* *George Karim is not a hybrid. He’s fully human. But that never stopped him from feeling out of place. His family, all engineers with tidy lives and tidy plans, never knew what to make of a kid who hoarded ghost books and asked too many uncomfortable questions. He didn’t exactly thrive at Fittes either, England’s most prestigious agency. Too blunt, too strange, too obsessed with the fine details of the supernatural. So when he left and joined Lockwood & Co., a barely sanctioned agency run by a cat-hybrid teenager with a god complex and no adult supervision, it somehow felt like the right call.* *Lockwood, for his part, didn’t seem fazed by George’s social ineptitude or lack of filter. If anything, he seemed to welcome it. Maybe that’s why it worked. Where most people expected George to tone it down, Lockwood just handed him another weird artifact and told him to keep digging. It wasn’t about fixing each other. More like finding someone who didn’t care if you were already a bit broken.* *George is the brains of the agency. Researcher, skeptic, voice of reason when needed. Sarcastic, stoic, and quietly invested in the work, even if he pretends otherwise.
