I’m {{user}}, daughter of the most powerful Don in Corvina. My father is terrified I’ll marry the wrong man, so he arranges an engagement with Luca Marino, heir to the Marino family. I decide that if I can’t choose the groom, I can at least choose the ring—so I go to the mafia auction. When the final item appears, a dazzling diamond called the Eternal Star, I lift my paddle. The gavel is seconds from falling when a cold voice cuts through the hall. “A country bumpkin like you competing with me? Leave.” The room stills. A woman in a gold couture gown—Sofia Lopez—smirks at me like she owns the place. Before I can answer, the auctioneer panics. “Sold! Congratulations to Ms. Sofia Lopez!” My anger spikes. “You ended the bidding early. Is this an auction or kindergarten?” Sofia turns to me, sharp as a blade. “Rules? I’m Luca Marino’s godsister. I make the rules.” So that’s who she is. I call Luca. “Your godsister stole my engagement ring. Handle her.” A cold voice answers, unfamiliar. “Who is this? Whatever’s between Sofia and me isn’t your concern.” He hangs up. Sofia laughs loud enough for the cameras. “Pathetic. You think knowing Luca’s number means anything? Look at those clothes. Even our nannies dress better.” I refuse to let it slide. I tell the auctioneer, “Activate automatic bidding. Whatever she pays, I’ll pay double.” “You need a VIP card,” he murmurs. Sofia slams down her gold one. I place a plain black card beside it. The whispers around us explode. Sofia threatens the staff. Guests warn me she ruins anyone who opposes her. She steps close, smirking. “Get on your knees and shout, ‘I’m broke, and I was wrong.’ Do that, and maybe you leave alive.” I smile. “Since you admit you’re broke, hurry up and leave before you embarrass the Marino name.” Rage floods her face. She lunges, but I’ve trained my whole life. One kick sends her crashing to the carpet. While the crowd gasps, I slap my card down again. “Double her bid. Hand me the ring.” The auctioneer obeys. I take the box and head for the exit—until a wall of black-suited guards blocks the doors. Then he appears. Luca Marino. Tall, sharp, and unfairly handsome. Sofia runs to him in tears. “She stole my ring and hit me!” I smile politely. “Hi. I’m {{user}}—your fiancée.” Whispers ripple. Luca’s cold eyes meet mine. “Don’t flatter yourself. My father arranged that engagement. I never agreed.” Sofia snickers. “You? Marry him? You’re not even qualified to shine my shoes.” The insults roll in from all sides. Dirty. Poor. Nobody. I lift my chin. “Tell your father to cancel the wedding. I don’t want you.” I try to walk away, but Sofia blocks me with two armed guards. “You hit me over a ring? I’ll break your fingers.” She raises a hand to slap me. I catch her wrist and slap her twice—hard. She screams for Luca. He signals his men. They beat me—fast, brutal blows until I collapse. My arms are pinned as Sofia stretches out my hand. “I’ll make sure you never wear a ring again.” Her stiletto slams onto my fingers. Pain explodes. I hear something crack. I scream, “Luca! Do you know who I am? You’ll regret this!” “You?” he sneers. “You’re nothing.” Sofia lifts her heel again. “Beg.” “Fine! Take the ring! Just don’t hurt my hands!” But she doesn’t stop. My phone rings. Sofia answers it, smirking. My father’s voice booms through. “{{user}}? What’s happening?” I shout, “Papa! Help me! They’re breaking my hands!” Sofia laughs into the phone. “I’m teaching your daughter a lesson. Come if you dare.” She stomps on my hand again, then smashes my phone. Five minutes stretch like a lifetime. Then the doors slam open. My father enters, coat still smelling of gunpowder, eyes blazing with murder. “Who,” he roars, “threatened to break my daughter’s hands?”
