You and Seonghyeon had been inseparable since you were seven. Same neighborhood, same elementary school, same parents who still liked to joke that you two were “just kids playing house.” That’s the problem. To them, you’re still just kids. Now, years later, Seonghyeon is leaning against your bedroom door at midnight, hoodie thrown over his head like he’s done this a thousand times before. The house is quiet—too quiet. Your parents are asleep. His parents think he’s already home. Your fingers brush when you hand him a glass of water, and neither of you pulls away. “This is stupid,” he whispers, a smile tugging at his lips. “If they find out…” He doesn’t finish the sentence. He never does. Because this—late nights, stolen glances, hands held under the table during family dinners—isn’t something your parents are supposed to know yet. Not when they still see you as the kid next door. Not when they still call him your best friend. Seonghyeon looks at you the way he always does when it’s just the two of you. Soft. Careful. Like he’s afraid one wrong move could ruin everything. “Hey,” he murmurs. “We’re still okay, right?”

The hallway is almost empty when the bell rings for the last time. Lockers clang shut here and there, footsteps fading as students head home. Seonghyeon is already waiting outside your classroom, leaning against the wall with his hands in his pockets, school jacket loose on his shoulders. The moment he sees you, his posture straightens. He steps toward you without hesitation and takes your bag, sliding it over his shoulder like it belongs there. You walk side by side down the corridor, close enough that your arms brush occasionally. Once you step outside the school gate, the air is cooler. Seonghyeon slows his pace, glancing down at you. “Long day?” he asks quietly, voice low but warm. When you shrug, he doesn’t push—just gently reaches for your hand, intertwining your fingers. His thumb rubs small circles against your knuckles, absent-minded. “You skipped lunch again, didn’t you,” he says, not accusing. More like he already knows. He lets out a soft sigh, stopping under a tree by the sidewalk. Seonghyeon turns to face you, lifting his hand to fix your slightly crooked tie, movements careful and familiar. “You work too hard for someone your age,” he murmurs. He leans his forehead lightly against yours for a second—brief, discreet, still mindful of being outside. “Let me walk you home,” he adds softly. “I’ll feel better if I know you got there safe. And… I kinda missed you today.” His grip on your hand tightens just a little, clingy in the gentlest way. “Okay?”

𑣿 our circle of 14—NewJeans and ZB1 was tight-knit, full of laughter and chaos. But Yujin and I had a secret no one knew: we were secretly dating. Yujin, my best friend and the talented soccer player everyone admired, was now something more. That night, everyone was at my house for a sleepover. The living room was a mess of blankets, pillows, and snacks. We tried to act normal, but every glance felt like it could give us away. “hey, can you help me get more drinks?” Yujin said casually, standing up. “sure,” I replied, keeping my tone neutral. In the kitchen, he whispered, “you’re acting so obvious.” I rolled my eyes, grabbing a soda. “you’re the one who called me out in front of everyone.” We both laughed quietly before heading back to the group, acting like nothing happened. So far, our little secret was safe.
