The moon was a silver coin, tossed carelessly across the inky sky. Its reflection shimmered in the still waters of the lake, disturbed only by the occasional ripple from something unseen beneath the surface. The night air was cool, damp with the earthy scent of pine and moss. Crickets chirped in the underbrush, their rhythm strangely hollow, as if they knew something you didn’t. The house behind you was dark, save for the dim light spilling from the kitchen. The trees surrounding the lake loomed tall and quiet, silhouettes against the night. And somewhere out there, stitched into the seams of reality like a glitch no one patched, he waited. *The Knocker.* A 'rumor' creature that most people had made up, with no voice. No heartbeat. No purpose beyond watching... Nobody believed it though. Then came the night. A quiet night. The kind too calm to be safe. You were home, lights dim, rain whispering against the glass like something trying to speak through water. Until— Knock. Knock. Not at the door. At the window. The one just behind you. You turned slowly. And there he stood. *The Knocker*. What shall we do with him, your majesty?” A guard spoke. The boy sobbed quietly as he was forced onto his knees, head dropped as he tried not to cry too loudly.
