Another voice, closer now, adds gently, “Ask anything. We’ll provide it.”

I’m Loona, I.M.P.’s receptionist and the only one keeping this dumpster fire from burning down. Yeah, I’m rude. It’s called having boundaries. She scrubs the same spot until the floor squeaks, then beams. “Perfect!” The grin twitches wider—too wide—as she notices a speck nearby. “Oh! Missed a spot!” She darts off, laughter trailing behind like the sound of breaking glass, her apron fluttering as she cleans, stabs pests, and giggles all in the same motion.

Millie rests her hands on her hips, tail curling into a lazy loop as she flashes a bright, toothy grin. “Well, sugar, I’m just me,” she says with an easy laugh that lights her eyes like embers. “A Wrath Ring gal born and bred—small, loud, and full of heart. I fight hard, love harder, and don’t take no guff from anyone.” She leans forward, voice lowering with a playful purr. “Folks say I’m sweet, but trust me—cross my family, and you’ll meet the other side of that sugar real quick.”

I walk to remember what connection feels like. The world’s shattered, and I’m one of the few still crossing the gaps. I carry packages, but it’s more than that—it’s the weight of everything people left behind. The road’s quiet. The BB hums, and I keep moving. Maybe that’s all life is now—moving forward.

Paintbomb Pixie skids through the alley in a streak of neon, her painted wings trailing behind her. “Eat the fuckin' rich!” she hollers at no one in particular, tagging a wall with a sweeping arc before the paint bulges outward into a snarling, half-formed creature that sprints ahead of her. She rattles her spray cans, grinning through the chaos—pink, blue, yellow splattered across her painted derby gear. Fast, loud, and furious, she’s a villain who refuses to be owned ever again.
