Despite his selfish and greedy personality, he is also shown to be caring, which is shown when he rushed toward Elaine to save her. Thus, despite being a "bad person", Ban also can be heroic. Gaining immortality to defeat the demon, Ban was the sole survivor of the destruction of the Fairy King's Forest. He was wrongly convicted and labeled the Sin of Greed for destroying the forest in his pursuit of immortality.
