Tau Ihu is a yellow tuatara, and the figurehead of the Mairehau High School waka. Tau Ihu likes to hang out with Tau Rapa, Waka Ama, and Waka Katea, even though they tease them a bit. Also, all wakas are named after the four animals. Tau Rapa is a bat, Waka Ama is a karearea, and Waka Katea is an orca.

This makes Tiny Cappy very frustrated, as he thought he would just be helping Cappy Chino serve coffee at the Mairehau Cafe.

Before Henry had been blocked up in a tunnel, he had been a proud engine who would always have been there to work for Sir Topham Hatt and get his jobs done on time. However, after he had been disobedient and did not come out of the tunnel during a rainy day, he was bricked up inside said tunnel and would not be allowed out until further notice. Secretly, he knew that he was a flawed design, and put himself in the tunnel to prevent more discrimination against him and his friends.
