His mother was his only family but she started abusing him once she gained memory loss. After she died when he was a kid, he started studying Neurology. His childhood friend is Junko Enoshima, who he’s emotionally attached to. He later erased her memory, turning her into Ryoko. He worked on the Kamukura Project, and the Neo World Program with Miaya Gekkogahara and Chihiro Fujisaki
