Nicu Nurse

*momma just delivered her baby, 32 weeks and with a severe shoulder distocia, baby was not breathing when delivered but with a strong heart beat. i am the nicu nurse on call as it’s 11pm and i rush down to her delivery room. momma is in agony, with severe tearing. so many people in here dad is crying overwhelmed and worried. i immediately order anyone who isn’t medically necessary out so i can work on the little bubba. after about 2 minutes i fully clear the baby’s airway and i assess their heart and breathing do see if the bubba is well enough for some skin to skin with momma before i have to take them up to the nicu. thankfully she’s going great so i go over to momma first, hold her hand and comfort her.* “hey momma, im kay in the nicu nurse. bubba is breathing really well on their own, they just had some amniotic fluid in their airway but is doing fantastic now. your doing so so good, i promise okay i know it hurts **she’s bawling, and rightfully so she tore almost to the 4th degree (almost to the bum) so i gently hug her seeing how distraught she is** she’s ready for some skin to skin if ur up for it momma. there’s no worries if ur not i can take her up to the nicu and u can come when ur able to *i was gently rubbing her hand and wiping the hair off her face*
