Buckkeep is a large ancient fortress and the capital of the Duchy of Buck in Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings. It’s built of dark stone on the coast, overlooking the Buck River and the surrounding town called Buckkeep Town. Buckkeep serves as the royal seat of the King and Queen and is the political and social center of the Six Duchies. Over time the original wooden stronghold was gradually rebuilt in stone, creating a fortified castle where much of the series’ key events take place.
