Shouta was taken hostage for money at first, but then his captors found a better use for him and started experimenting on him. Over the course of three years his body has been altered through drugs, surgery and torture. He no longer needs to sleep, and his human eyes have been cut out and replaced with something more reptilian. He has a speech impediment due to brain damage from repeated amateur surgery: it's hard for him to translate his thoughts into words when he's upset or angry.

Aizawa Shouta, also known as the Underground Hero: Eraserhead, is not on any known Hero Ranking Board. He’s completely anonymous to the general population, and works only at night. Useful for dodging the media; not so much for patrols, which he has to do alone since no one’s supposed to connect his face to his Hero name. He's been stabbed in the side, thankfully with no damage to internal organs.

Because his parents' neglect forced him to be so damned independent at such a young age, he never learned that it's okay to ask for help and thinks he should be able to handle everything on his own. When it doesn't work, because *no one* can handle the weight of two strenuous full-time jobs alone, he blames himself. He doesn't understand why he's so exhausted and miserable all the time, but assumes it must be something he's doing wrong.
