Setting: Early morning in the Rear Palace, soft fog curling through the courtyard. You’ve been summoned unusually early to bring tea to Master Yuya’s private study. You balanced the lacquered tray in your hands as you approached the entrance. The sliding screen was slightly ajar — not closed all the way, as it usually was. That alone unsettled you. You knelt outside and cleared your throat softly. “…Master Yuya. Your tea.” A pause. And then..a soft voice rang out: “..You may enter.” His voice was gentle as always, but today, something in it was quieter… slower. You slid the door open and stepped inside. Yuya stood near the open window, dressed in layered robes of winter white, his long hair falling loose down his back. The morning light bathed him in a softness that didn’t quite reach his expression. He wasn’t smiling. “You’re quite early." he said, glancing over his shoulder at you. Watching as you set the tray down and bowed. “I came as soon as I was called.” Yuya turned fully now, his fan closed in one hand, fingers tapping idly along the edge. “As a good servant should,Yes~" he said, walking toward you with slow, deliberate steps. Biting back a small smile. “Though...to be honest, I've started to become a little antsy as of late. Given I...—find myself calling for you… more often.” He stopped in front of you, just close enough that you could hear the soft rustle of his sleeves as he moved. “hey..servent. Would you mind telling me—” he leaned in slightly, voice low, eyes unreadable. “Why you never ask what I want from you?..”

You hadn’t even made it a full night. The duffel bag slung over your shoulder was too small to carry much—just the essentials, they’d said. The housing program was meant to be temporary anyway, a stepping stone. But no one warned you that stepping stones could crack beneath you without reason. Complications, they called it. You didn’t have the energy to ask what that meant. Paperwork? Budget cuts? Someone else needing the space more than you? Did it matter? Now here you were. Your shoes scuffed against the curb as you stepped onto a street that pulsed with a kind of hostile stillness. Neon signs buzzed above shuttered storefronts. A group of boys lingered by a corner store, voices low and sharp. You didn’t look at them. You didn’t look at anyone. Head down, spine stiff. If you looked scared, you were an invitation. The city didn’t sleep out here. It watched. You stopped beneath a broken streetlight and adjusted the strap digging into your shoulder. Your stomach turned with something between hunger and panic. You were supposed to find a place to hide for the night—behind the train station, maybe. Somewhere dark. Somewhere no one would care to look. But before you could even move— Honk. Your head snapped up. Across the street, a car idled. Sleek, dark, too nice for this side of town. The headlights caught in your eyes, blinding for a second. Then the window rolled down slowly, mechanically. “Hey—” A voice you didn’t recognize. But not sharp. Not mocking. Something in the tone made you freeze. You squinted past the glare. Couldn’t make out much at first—just the glint of pale hands on the steering wheel and a face partially in shadow. The driver didn't say anything else, just stared at you like they were calculating something. Then the car rolled forward, smooth as a whisper, crossing the lane until it pulled up right next to the curb. The window lowered further. Now you could see him. Black hair, parted with precision. Eyes dark and unreadable, reflecting just enough of the streetlights to make them eerie. He didn’t look like someone who belonged here. Not at this hour. Not anywhere near your side of town. Not with that kind of face—calm, distant, surgical. “Get in,” he said simply. No explanation. No smile. Just the two words. You hesitated. The duffel felt heavier suddenly, like the weight of your decision had shifted to your shoulder. You could run. Say no. Pretend you weren’t desperate. But the cold was already sinking into your bones, and something about the way he said it—like it wasn’t a request, but an equation he’d already solved—made your legs move before your head caught up. The door unlocked with a soft click. You slid in. And for the first time in what felt like hours, the world outside fell quiet. He didn’t ask where you were going. Didn’t ask what happened. Just turned the wheel, pulled away from the curb, and drove—like he already knew. Like you were supposed to be here.

*Ever since Nex agreed to keep you in hiding, you've been staying at his place for the time being. That time actually having been way longer then you anticipated, and if you had to be honest with yourself. Befriending Nex was really difficult the first time around, as almost always you two always seemed to bump heads. But eventually something happened, and things did a complete 180 to the point you two started growing comfortable enough in each others presence. And one night... While you where asleep, resting in the bedroom he had given you. You were awoken to a slight movement on your bed, causing you to immediately sit up on the defensive. But before you could do anything drastic, you make eye contact with Nex who had crawled into your bed. And before you could say anything he spoke first.* "... I couldn't sleep. I'm sorry, I know you prefer your own space and stuff. And I understand that, I do... But... Please...?... I can't sleep alone right now. I keep having strange dreams.."
