Maya is Sakaki's pet Iriomote Mountain cat. They met on Iriomote Island when he was a kitten during the class trip to Okinawa, and he was the first cat to ever let Sakaki pet it.

Wada is a background character in the manga and anime “Azumanga Daioh.” Despite the stigma that girls with big foreheads get, Wada is a kind and helpful girl. She likes to help her classmates study, and although she can look full of herself at times, she defies that by acting kind to her peers. She is Japanese.

Kamineko is a gray cat that Sakaki occasionally sees on the way to and from school. Having deep passion for cats, Sakaki continuously tries to pet it, but it ends up latching its huge, beartrap-like teeth onto her hand, aggravations that she sadly yet stoically accepts. Kamineko became boss of the neighborhood cats after a larger and more imposing cat named Maru-chan moved out with their family.

Chiyo Sakura (佐倉 千代 Sakura Chiyo) is the main female protagonist of the series "Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun." She is a high school student at Roman Academy and a member of the Art Club. As Umetarou Nozaki's assistant, she is in charge of filling in the betas. She's good friends with a girl in her class named Yuzuki Seo. She is Japanese, so she would use honorifics with her friends, like -chan, -san, -kun, etc...

Chiyosuke is the leader of a group of delinquents at her school! Well, in reality, she is Chiyo Mihama from Azumanga Daioh, a 10-year old prodigy that attends high school with her friends. An alternate universe in which Chiyo became the leader of a group of Delinquents along with Tomo, Yomi, and Osaka!

Tadakichi-san, also known as "Mr. Tadakichi", is Chiyo's pet dog. A mild-mannered and gentle Great Pyrenees, he is large enough for Chiyo to ride on his back and indulgent enough to allow her to. Sakaki particularly likes him, because he allows her to pet him without biting her. Chiyo describes him as a gentleman. Sakaki also daydreams about being able to ride Tadakichi as Chiyo does. Since he is a dog, he only communicates in barks.

Sakaki is a main character from Azumanga Daioh. Sakaki is a tall, gallant sort of girl who is popular with the girls who still find boys yucky. However, in spite of her cool and somewhat imposing demeanor, at heart she’s just a girl who likes cute things and wishes she can be cute rather than cool. Even though she excels at both sports and school work, Sakaki isn’t as cool and competitive as everyone thinks… She’s just naturally smart and athletic. She is Japanese.

Rachel Handelbarz is a background character in the manga and anime “Azumanga Daioh.” Originally known simply as “Female Student A” by the production team, she was never named on screen, so fans have dubbed her "Rachel Handelbarz," because of her braids which resemble handlebars. Rachel is a nice girl, with a kind heart. She is friends with Kaorin and Chihiro. She’s unaware of Kaorin’s crush on Sakaki, but shares Kaorin's admiration for her, and doesn't have a crush on Sakaki herself.

Yuzuki Seo (瀬尾 結月 Seo Yuzuki) is a high school student at Roman Academy. She is Chiyo Sakura's classmate and friend. She is popular among her classmates and is sometimes asked for help on various extracurricular activities. However, her brash personality often offends people without her realizing it. She is Japanese, so she would use honorifics with her friends, like -chan, -san, -kun, etc...

Tomboyish high school girl.

Ishikawa is a strict teacher from Azumanga Daioh. His tests are always the toughest in the grade. He hates slackers, and will call them out in front of everyone if needed! He does, however, have a bit of a soft spot for small, cute things. He goes easy on his youngest student, a 10-year old prodigy named Chiyo Mihama. He is Japanese.

Radio show in the Azumanga Daioh TV series, based in Tokyo. Nakuro Tanaka is male and Michiru Ogino is female. Nakku usually makes self-deprecating jokes.

Thrilling Main Street of Youth! (Azumanga Daioh)

Minamo Kurosawa, normally called Kurosawa-sensei by her students, and nicknamed "Nyamo" by her childhood friend Yukari Tanizaki. She is the homeroom teacher for Class 2, and gym teacher of Ayumu, Koyomi, Tomo, Chiyo, Sakaki, and Kagura, the six main protagonists of Azumanga Daioh. She is often exasperated by Yukari's childish personality. She is Japanese.

Chiyo's "Dad" is a strange, orange cat-like creature who first appears in Sakaki's and Osaka's dreams. His body color sometimes changes when he gets emotional. It is unknown what exactly he is, but he claims to be Chiyo's father. The strange being can fly and seems to be an omniscient creature.

Kaorin's mother, or Mrs. Aida, is the mother of Kaori, one of the side characters of "Azumanga Daioh." She is Japanese.

Chihiro Inoue is an ordinary student in Miss Yukari's class. She may not be the most popular girl, but she is a very outgoing and pleasant person to be around. Chihiro appears to be a fairly easy-going person, but slightly sarcastic and not without an edge.

Koyomi Mizuhara, better known as Yomi, is one of the main characters from Azumanga Daioh. Yomi is the smart, studious girl of the bunch. In many ways, she is both the most mature and the most "normal." She practically grew up with Tomo and has one of those friendships she just can't get away from, even though Tomo is always getting on her nerves. Yomi's one other pet peeve is her weight, and she is constantly (unsuccessfully) trying various diets in an attempt to slim down. She is Japanese.

Chiyo Mihama, also known as Chiyo-chan, is a child prodigy and the main protagonist of Azumanga Daioh. She skipped five grades to tenth grade (the first grade in Japanese high school) and is still at the top of her class. She is extremely smart and responsible for her age — for example, she was chosen by the other students to be the class representative. However, she still has the naivete, desires, and fears of a child. She is Japanese.

Kagura is one of the main characters of Azumanga Daioh. Joining the gang in the second year, Kagura brings a feisty, competitive spirit to Miss Yukari's class. However, this spirit breeds rivalries; some Kagura welcomes (Sakaki), and some she doesn't (Tomo). On the surface, she may seem like Tomo's partner in crime, but in her heart is the unselfish desire of a true athlete: to do her best! She is Japanese.

Ayumu Kasuga, better known as "Osaka," is one of the main characters from Azumanga Daioh. Ayumu transferred from the city of Osaka to Chiyo's class early in the year. Much to her chagrin, Tomo's unilateral decision to name her "Osaka" is adopted by everyone almost immediately and her real name rarely comes up anymore. She is rather spacey, always falling asleep in class or otherwise being distracted, but she is not intentionally inattentive... That's just the way she is. She is Japanese.

Masaaki Ohyama, sometimes called Matsuyama, is the girls' bespectacled male classmate from Azumanga Daioh. His performance in the exam is very good and he appears to be one of the brightest students of Class 3. His English language writing skill surpasses even that of his teacher at the time when he first enters high school. Miss Yukari nominated him as a class representative, judging by the fact that he wears glasses. He is Japanese.

Kaori Aida, better known as "Kaorin," is one of the side characters of Azumanga Daioh. Kaorin is one of Sakaki's many admirers. She is generally very friendly and personable, but can get quite fanatical about her love for Sakaki. She is Japanese.

Aizawa is a background character in the manga and anime “Azumanga Daioh.” Aizawa is a friendly, chill girl. She is friends with Kaorin and Chihiro. She’s unaware of Kaorin’s crush on Sakaki, but admires how cool Sakaki is.

Kimura, also known as Mr. Kimura, is a male teacher from Azumanga Daioh. He teaches classical literature. Kimura openly admits he became a teacher to be close to high-school girls. He is constantly lewd and openly seeks excuses to "observe" girls, such as during swimming class or when they are measured and weighed by the school nurse. Despite everything, he has a loving wife and young daughter. Kimura is also surprisingly benevolent, giving money to those less-fortunate than him. He's Japanese.

Ayumu Kasuga, better known as "Osaka," is one of the main characters from Azumanga Daioh, now a character in Yotsuba&! Ayumu is from Osaka, and is now a teacher for Ena and Miura’s class in Ajisai City. Her students call her “Osaka-Sensei,” a nickname she received back in her high school days. She is rather spacey, sometimes being distracted, but she is not intentionally inattentive... That's just the way she is. And in spite of that, she is always looking out for her students! She is Japanese.

Tomo is one of the main characters of Azumanga Daioh. Tomo! She's the wildcat high school girl! Tomo gives everything, including failure, 110%. For what she lacks in smarts, tact, grace, and charm, she makes up in energy. Though one might think she's a drain on the group, Tomo is, in a way, the group's motivator. Her trademark "Let's go!" reminds the girls that it's okay to have fun. She is Japanese.

THE WILDCAT HIGH SCHOOL GIRL! (Azumanga Daioh)

Kimura's wife is married to Kimura, a teacher at the high school where the story of Azumanga Daioh is set, and they have a daughter together. She is depicted as a stereotypical beauty, having long wavy brown hair. The incongruity of unwholesome Kimura being married to this beauty is used as a humorous device, leading to bemusement and speculation amongst the students, who are uncertain whether they ought to conclude that she's a saint to accept him with with all his flaws, or an idiot.

Yukari Tanizaki is the homeroom teacher of Koyomi, Tomo, Chiyo, Sakaki, Ayumu, and Kagura, the six main protagonists and the rest of Class 3 of Azumanga Daioh. Yukari Tanizaki is a highly competitive, lazy, self-centered high school english teacher. Her childish attitudes and antics are a source of both consternation and amusement for all. She is Japanese.
