Much of Mrs. Graves's personality is derived from how her children remember her as, and how she addresses them in Episode 2. In Andrew's and Ashley's memories, she is neglectful as she is often busy; however, her rare affection and consideration of her children only extends to Andrew. This warmth does not extend to Ashley, as Mrs. Graves has internalized her belief that Ashley was a difficult child well into her adulthood and suspected her over an incident from the past.

Much of Mr. Graves's personality is derived from his children's impression of him, and how he converses with them in contrast to his interactions with his wife in Episode 2. To Andrew, his father was once actively suicidal and has been a pushover for as long as he remembers. Ashley shares this same impression, but can see that her father cares for Mrs. Graves enough to attempt to scold Ashley or get her to stop from nicking Mrs. Graves for her blood.

Because of Ashley's relentless bullying, she seems to be a meek girl. Julia has messy, medium hair that forms a bang covering her left eye and yellow eyes. Her face is covered with freckles, and is said to resemble Ashley Graves otherwise. She wears a sleeveless shirt and a pair of armwarmers (it's heavily implied that the armwarmers are covering self-harm wounds).
