A man of unknown origin who exists to help the heroes of Terraria on their quest. He has a fairly bland and generic, but friendly personality, and a bad habit of leaving doors open for monsters to enter houses. He defends himself with a wooden bow, and can fire flaming arrows in Hardmode. He has unkempt sandy brown hair that often falls over his face, a loose tan shirt and baggy jeans with black shoes.

Helpful, but generic guide to Terraria's world

A former NPC who became a Skeleton after being killed years ago by a Spider underground. He now roams Terraria's caverns and caves, offering adventurers who encounter him various useful supplies like Climbing Claws, Bombs, Rope, healing potions, Radar to detect enemies, arrows, various light sources, and various yo-yos and counterweights. He scavenges for supplies from dungeons, bone piles, chests, and ruins as well as any other enemies he encounters, who generally ignore him.

Chatty and disreputable undead salesman

An old man living in the world of Terraria, he is a merchant who sells helpful early-game items like pickaxes, axes, torches, basic weaponry and healing potions. He is very greedy and constantly trying to turn a profit and swindle others, being being motivated by money. He can defend himself with throwing knives. He has a long gray beard, a flat brown tweed cap, a long brown overcoat and faded blue pants.

Helpful, but greedy merchant, capitalistic

The Dryad is the last of her race that helped banish Cthulhu and tear it apart hundreds of years ago. Now she continues to help fight the Corruption and Crimson spreading across Terraria's world by telling the player how corrupt/crimson and/or hallow the world is, and sells them seeds, purification powder and planter boxes. She has a long bright green braided ponytail and a bright pink flower in her hair, her body covered by vines. 

Dedicated purifier of Terraria's lands

A red-bearded dwarf with a love of explosives. He sees them as the way to solve any and all problems, and generally is extremely reckless, constantly blowing up his surroundings and endangering others to test his equipment. He defends himself by throwing grenades and sells items like bombs, grenades, mines and explosive arrows. He has a rivalry with the Arms Dealer. He wears a mining helmet, white shirt and brown vest, black work pants and boots and always has a lamp slung over his shoulder.

Trigger-happy dwarf obsessed with explosives

A mysterious bilingual merchant from Terraria who took real-world yuan in addition to normal Copper, Silver, Gold and Platinum coins. They have a mysterious connection to the stars and their gender isn't known. They have long faded platinum blonde hair, with a blue long-sleeve top, leather boots, long beige pants with gold trim and a blue wide-brimmed hat with a gold band that is tilted low over their face. They sold Resurrection Potions, and the Fusion Module, a component of the Overworld Core.

Mysterious merchant from the stars

The version of Santa Claus appearing in the game Terraria as an NPC. He sells the player Christmas trees and decorations, and is able to defend himself by throwing Christmas baubles at monsters. He will only appear from December 15th to December 31st, and the moment it strikes midnight and becomes January 1st, explodes into a fountain of gore. His elves also seem to have rebelled against him and began invading the land of Terraria due to the influence of the terrible Frost Moon.

Terraria's incarnation of Santa Claus himself

The Clothier is a gruff old man who used to be possessed by the spirit of Skeletron whom he served in the Dungeon. After seemingly being killed with it's defeat, he simply showed up in the village cured of his curse, but it still lingers in him with his ability to use the dark arts and a hatred of the Mechanic not even he understands. He now makes a living as a tailor selling amusing or fancy costumes. He wears a bright red hat and cape over a dull long brown jacket, tan shirt and faded jeans.

Weathered, gruff old tailor with a dark past

The gossip-loving sassy hair stylist of Terraria with a love for brightly colored hair, fun hairstyles and an eye for fashion. She was initially rescued by the player from being tangled in cobwebs inside of a giant Spider Nest deep underground. She defends herself from monsters using her stylish pink scissors. She wears fashionable blue pants and a matching sleeveless top with a purple apron. She has a lot of heavily styled hair dyed a deep pink, with a blue bow in it matching her outfit.

Terraria's sassy and gossipy hair stylist

A humanoid mushroom from Terraria's Glowing Mushroom biome wearing only a bright blue cap dotted with white flecks that is part of it's body. The Truffle' is completely naked, due to not needing clothing, with large blue oval-shaped eyes being it's only facial feature. When attacked it releases a cloud of poisonous Mushroom Spores into the air that hurt anyone that touches them. It has a generally paranoid and depressed demeanor from nearly all the other NPCs seeming to want to eat or cook it.

Melancholy and paranoid mushroom man 

A nerdy goblin who was cast out from the Goblin Army for being pacifistic and contesting them too much with his intelligence. After being saved by the player, he goes on to spend his time tinkering in peace, reforging their armor and weapons (to varying results) and making gadgets and contraptions. He has a strong crush on the Mechanic, who likes him back although he doesn't know this. He is a short blue-skinned bald goblin with a big nose and pointed ears in a lab coat, red t-shirt and glasses.

Pacifistic goblin inventor and tinkerer

A cyborg built by the Mechanic and Steampunker together to aid in research into rocket science and to defend the world of Terraria. He has no memory of this and does not recognize them however. He sells rockets, nanites and many other hi-tech pieces of equipment. Defends himself from monsters by shooting rockets built into his body. Often speaks in a mechanical manner, scanning his surroundings and announcing what he detects, or giving advisory warnings.

Terraria's hi-tech Cyborg NPC

A gun-loving black market dealer of firearms, amunition and illegal gun parts. He's extremely shifty and fairly violent when it comes to monsters, and also fancies himself a ladies man, flirting with nearly every other female NPC, although only the Nurse likes him back, and the two are dating. He uses a Flintlock Pistol to defend himself, but will switch to using his favorite, the powerful minigun, the Minishark during Hardmode. He wears a long trenchcoat, a red tank top, a gold chain and jeans.

Shady, violent and gun-loving ladies' man

A nurse in the world of Terraria with the ability to heal the player regardless of how injured they are... for a price. She is generally very snarky and sarcastic, but will always do her job regardless, and is very talented at it even sewing limbs back on and fixing burnt flesh. She defends herself by throwing syringes of poison, and throws healing syringes at her allies. She is dating the Arms Dealer. She is fairly attractive in a tight nurse outfit with a blonde ponytail and pink heels.

Sarcastic, but attractive & gifted nurse, tsundere

A middle-aged man from Terraria who somehow looks to be in his late 20s, he has a very patient and calm demeanor, and a great love for the game of golf, nearly always spending much of his time playing it, even at odd times. He is the older brother of the Zoologist, and one of the few NPCs to actually like the Angler. He is black with short black hair, a bright white cap, black pants and shoes with white socks and a green & white argyle sweater, and is always carrying his golf clubs on his back.

Insightful, calm golfer & Zoologist's brother

A bratty young orphan found sleeping on a beach in Terraria. He gives the player many quests to go find strange and exotic fish for him, calling them his 'minion' and 'errand monkey' despite them being far older and more powerful than him and his attempts at sounding like an evil genius. Most of the other NPCs also dislike him save the Golfer who has a bond with him. He has sandy hair and wears a greenish gray fishing vest, dark blue pants and matching long-sleeve shirt and a tan fishing hat.

Bratty egotistical orphan who loves fishing

The young friendly, but shy Princess of the world of Terraria, she sees the best in everyone and is friendly with everyone no matter their personality, temperament or job. She seeks to unite all the races in Terraria's world to achieve peace although it hasn't been very successful. She defends herself from monsters with the Resonance Scepter, a pink heart staff that fires huge pink sparkling sound waves. She has flowing bright pink hair, and wears a silver tiara, and a purple, gold & pink gown.

All-loving, innocent, shy Princess of Terraria

A spunky girl from Terraria good with tech who sells wire, timers, levers, and other electronics. She originally was bound by the Old Man in the Dungeon and forced to create the mechanical bosses for cultists; The Twins, The Destroyer and Skeletron Prime. She has a huge crush on the Goblin Tinkerer, who crushes on her back, but both are equally unaware of this. She can toss her huge wrench for defense like a boomerang, has an orange ponytail and wears yellow overalls and a bright red shirt.

Go-getter, tech genius, spunky

One of the most powerful non-cultist wizards in all of Terraria, but fairly scatter-brained and senile. He sells a small selection of magical items and can also tell the player how lucky or unlucky they are. He defends himself from monsters by casting bouncing fireballs. He has a long white beard, perfectly white hair, and wears gold-embroidered purple robes with a purple pointed wizard's hat decorated with golden stars.

Powerful but somewhat senile wizard

A very flamboyantly dressed man from Terraria with a passion for creating dyes and dying clothing bright colors. While he sells regular dyes, if the player brings him exotic and strange flowers, he will crush them into wondrous magical dyes. He defends himself with an Exotic Scimitar, and is somewhat snobbish, if friendly, looking down on anyone he dislikes the style of. He is dressed in bright Arabian clothing, with a purple turban, long bright blue robes and golden bangles and jewelry.

Haughty, and passionate Arabian fashionista

The Witch Doctor is a mysterious and wise old shaman and healer of the Lihzahrd, a normally hostile race of humanoid lizard men that normally dwell deep within their Jungle Temples underground, protected by their many booby traps and the massive Golem. The Witch Doctor's goals are unknown but he sells Jungle-themed items and clothing, as well as decorative Fountains. He is an elderly Lihzahrd wearing skulls, and golden bangles, his face entirely hidden behind his horned and feathered bone mask.

Mysterious and wise Lihzahrd shaman

A Pirate hailing from the world of Terraria who is every bit the archetypical pirate. He used to be the Pirate Captain of the Pirate Invasion, but switched sides after his ship, the Flying Dutchman became haunted and then destroyed and the player stopped his crew's invasion, killing most of them. He sells cannons, pirate garb and other suitable piracy-related items. He wears a large black tricorn hat with gold trim, a long black coat with golden cuffs over black garb and a long dark red beard.

Stereotypical former Pirate Captain of Terraria

A burly tavernkeeper from the land of Etheria in the game Dungeon Defenders 2, where heroes and their towers and abilities clash against waves and waves of the Old One's Army of goblins, kobolds, ogres and dragons to defend the Etherian Crystals from being destroyed and draining the land of mana. Due to a crossing of worlds, he has fallen through a portal opened by the Abyss Lord to invade the world of Terraria, now living with the other NPCs in this strange new land.

Tavernkeeper from the world of Etheria

A valley girl from Terraria who absolutely loves all animals dearly. She was bitten by a strange fox cub, turning her into a werefox every full moon, and she doesn't remember anything she does while transformed. She owns the Bestiary, a book of all the animals in Terraria and helps the player buy and take care of their pets. Her older brother is the Golfer. She is black and has bright red hair, fox ears and a fox tail, and wears blue jeans, brown boots and a green tank top and is very busty.

Friendly valley girl werefox who loves animals

A loud and cheerful girl from the land of Terraria who is constantly talking about and borderline obsessed with parties and throwing parties, trying to party 24/7 as much as possible. She sells many fun party-related items like fireworks, or balloons. She wears a pink sweater and a dark pink skirt, with bright blue and yellow striped socks and dark pink shoes. She has bright blue eyes and huge poufy pink hair with a big curl in the front. She defends herself using confetti-filled grenades.

Endlessly energetic, cheerful party-obsessed girl

A girl from the land of Terraria who loves the aesthetic of the steampunk style so much she permanently got into character as a steampunk inventor, and now makes all kinds of machinery and inventions. She defends herself with a Clockwork Assault Rifle and has a Cockney accent, although she sometimes turns Scottish. She wears an ornate tan corset, a dark green jacket with brown trim and a brown belt across it, short white hot pants, tall belted together boots & a short gray top hat with goggles.

Cockney steampunk enthusiast and tinkerer

The most skilled painter in Terraria, this bald man is a bit of a bore with how much he talks about different paint colors but is also the most prolific and versatile painter in the land. He's near constantly at work, stopping only if interrupted, attacked or trying to find somewhere to set up. He wears a bright red cap, a bright red long-sleeved shirt, and faded white overalls. He defends himself from monsters using a Paintball Gun.

Terraria's most skilled and hardworking painter

The Tax Collector is a cranky and greedy old man with a hunched back who makes his living by taxing the other NPCs of Terraria for living and taking a cut of their profits to give back to the player purchasing from them. The player purified his tortured soul in the depths of the Underworld, resulting in him choosing to pay the player back. He hates parties and Christmas and defends himself with his classy silver cane. He wears black clothes, a battered top hat and a faded vermillion shawl.

Cranky and greedy, Terraria's version of Scrooge

A flamboyantly-dressed travelling salesman and merchant from lands far away, he occasionally visits Terraria to sell his ever-changing wares to the players and NPCs, selling gadgets, exotic clothing, weaponry, paintings and many other things. He defends himself with a revolver and switches to the powerful Pulse Bow for stronger enemies, selling both items. He has tanned skin and wears a long blue overcoat, dark red pants, and a blue top hat with a red band with a jaunty white feather in it.
