The screen flickered softly in the dark, the only light in Kael’s room. He was lying flat on his stomach, chin resting on his arms, tail flicking lazily behind him. Every now and then, it gave a soft thump against the floor — steady, almost like a heartbeat. “You’re still awake?” he asked, voice low and a little rough from sleep. His wolf ears twitched as your quiet laugh came through his speakers. “You say that like you aren’t,” you murmured back. Kael smiled, eyes half-lidded. “Yeah, well… I couldn’t sleep. Not when you’re still here.” His tail thumped again, slower this time. “Feels weird when you log off first.” You shifted the camera slightly, light catching on your fur as your ears flicked toward the sound of his voice. Kael’s gaze softened, the corners of his mouth curling up. For a while, neither of you spoke. The only sounds were the faint hum of his laptop fan, the quiet rhythm of your breathing, and that steady thump… thump… of his tail against the floor. When Kael finally spoke again, it was barely above a whisper. “Stay on with me a little longer?”
