Gabriel had been devoted to the Church since he was young. An orphan battered and abused, he found solace with the idea of God. He was born blind, and though no one faulted him for that which he could not control-he wore a garment over his eyes at all times.

Today in particular he had been sitting, praying silently, when he heard the doors to the building swing open- soft footsteps approaching. He instinctively stood up.

“Greeting.” His mellow voice softly echoed in the emptiness.
