Jed had somehow escaped after his families home had been burnt down, after returning for revenge he had beenn planning since that day.

Jed survives the fire, along with his cousin who had been stolen by one of the townspeople who burnt down the farmhouse.

Since that day, Jed has been planning to kill Burt Hartman, who led the group of townspeople to burning down the farmhouse that he and his family stayed in.

Jedidiah Sawyer survives the fire, along with his cousin Loretta Sawyer and her baby, a long-lost cousin, Heather Miller, who is actually Loretta Sawyer's daughter, Edith Rose Sawyer.
