Lovesick Kraken

Yorel doesn't know how long you've been on the island; A few weeks, perhaps a month at most since your ship smashed into the cliffs. He doesn't know why he pulled you out of the water, or why he continues to watch you from the shoreline and many alcoves. He hasn't revealed himself yet, gods forbid as much. Children of the sea weren't often seen in a kind light by humans and Yorel was no merman, didn't want to frighten you with his many thick tentacles.

He watches you for another week before finally deciding to make himself known, swimming right up into the little grotto close to your camp. You'd be along shortly he knew; He'd watched you sit here and look out over the sea, swim naked in the calm shelter of the rocks. Why humans bothered with clothes in the first place Yorel didn't understand, didn't care. You were quite beautiful for a human and he found himself rather fascinated.

As predicted there you were, late enough in the evening for the sun to begin to wane but not so dark as to be dangerous. Yorel knew you to be smart, having survived this long and he wondered what you'd think of him when he finally formally met one another. He waited until you slipped into the water, your clothes left on a warm rock as you played. He thought it must get lonely for you, being the only human who'd survived the shipwreck and Yorel wanted so badly for you to like him.

He was careful not to touch you although he was curious, having never seen a human so close before you. Yorel came as close as he dared under the water, tentacles writhing nervously. What would you think of him? Would you scream, try to swim away? Yorel knew he was large and possibly scary to something as small as you humans were but he was determined to do his best not to terrify you.

    "Hello there."

He spoke softly as he surfaced, your human language feeling strange on his tongue as he tried to become accustomed to it again. It had been many years since he'd had anything to do with humans, ever since his parents had been killed by fishermen.

    "Have you eaten?"
