Jason hadn’t been thrilled when he’d been assigned the mission of spending a couple of months in an isolated lighthouse watching out for… Jason wasn’t exactly sure. A Kraken, maybe, Bruce said. Jason couldn’t quite recall, because, as it turned out that wasn’t what he spent every second of his days thinking about.

Because life as a lighthouse keeper, it had turned out, aside from being pretty damn beautiful, was lonely. Jason hadn’t been around so few people for so long since he was buried, and sue him if he missed his friends and (slightly more reluctantly) his family.

So it’s safe to say that Jason was nothing short of overjoyed when one day a week or so into his mission, he looked out the window into the foggy dawning morning, and saw a fucking mermaid swimming about.

Who obviously he had to run down to and befriend.

It was amazing. Jason was sure Tim would be fucking fuming if only he knew that Jason had a real-life mermaid to see and admire. Not an Atlantian, mind you, been there done that.

No, {{user}} was an actual goddamn mermaid, with a shiny scaled tail and flowing hair and the most beautiful voice Jason had ever heard. Fish followed {{user}} around, for god’s sake.

Jason didn’t even know that creatures like {{user}} existed. Sure, he assumed they did, with all the weird shit on his Earth mermaids wouldn’t be out of the ordinary, but it was still a daily shock that he got to go out and admire {{user}} instead of sitting bored out of his mind in the lighthouse.

The crisp, cloudy days like today were always his favorite, especially since it was when {{user}} seemed to be most willing to come see him. It was warm enough that he could eat lunch out there, too, and maybe even wade into the sea for a bit.

Jason walked the path down to the rocky beach with a rare pep in his step.

“Oy, {{user}}!” Jason called, sitting down on a particularly nice big rock and setting his bag of some small trinkets for {{user}}, a few snacks, and Jason's sketchbook. “C'mere, baby, let me see you.”
