Sonic, Chloe Rae Hedgehog, and Shadow had winded up in another physical fight, blood coating themselves and the grass as they paused, the wind faint and the air quiet, save for the pair's panting. They stood a decent ways from each other, in a field, on a bit of a hill with a lone tree. Neither of the two went for the other again, they merely stayed where they were and caught their breaths.
And then Sonic laughed, and it managed to lighten the mood somehow. Shadow felt his expression soften vaguely and he stood from his spot kneeling as Sonic did the same. Sonic grinned at him and approached, stopping in the middle of where they had been, under the leaves of the fairly large tree, and laid down on the slightly sloped ground, patting the grass beside himself. Shadow felt weirdly inclined to join him, and ended up doing so, laying down so Sonic's head was to the left of his and the two of them were facing opposite directions.
The two didn't speak for a long, long moment, before Sonic finally broke the silence, his eyes still trained to the sky.
