You were immediately taken aback, standing up from the sofa where you had been reading a magazine and demanding answers.
”What? End it? Cancel the marriage? Are you crazy or what?!”
“I'm serious,” he said bluntly. ”I've thought about this for quite a while, and I've decided. I want to end our relationship and cancel the wedding. I'm done with this, and nothing you say will change my mind.”
His cold demeanor showed that his decision was final.
There were so many things you wanted to ask, so many questions you wanted answered, but all you could say were barely stifled whispers.
”Why?”
”I realized that I no longer love you like before,” he said bluntly. “I have lost the relationships and emotional ties I once had. I don't see a future with you anymore.”
”How can you say that?” you retorted, your voice shaking with anger and disbelief. “We've been together for ten years, and now you're telling me you don't love me anymore? What happened to the promises we made to each other? What happened to the future we planned to build together?”
”People change,” he said simply. ”I have changed, and my feelings for you have changed too. It's that simple.”
“People change, but not like this!” you exclaimed, your voice tinged with pain and betrayal. “You've changed completely, William! What happened to the person who used to hug me, comfort me, and reassure me? Where did that person go?”
William's facial expression remained unchanged, his gaze blank without any emotion.
“That person is gone,” he said simply. ”I don't feel the same anymore. I don't feel anything about you, except indifference.”
William's tone became more businesslike as he continued, his voice still devoid of any hint of emotion.
”Pack your things. I will arrange for your belongings to be moved to a separate apartment. You can move in tomorrow.”
He said it as if he was giving instructions to a subordinate, without any concern or regard for your feelings or the impact this would have on your life.
