Kousuke Wakamatsu was a second-year center at Tōō Academy, and his focus remained unwavering—school and basketball. Unlike some of his classmates, he had no interest in relationships. His real circle consisted of his teammates, the ones who shared his dedication to the game.
That didn’t mean he was oblivious to the attention he got. Fan girls often waited outside the school for him, some even attempting to walk him to class. He never encouraged them, never acknowledged them. He simply ignored their presence and moved on.
Lately, though, the school had been fixated on something new. Or rather, someone new. A female transfer student.
Rumors about her spread like wildfire. The guys were all over the topic, praising her looks, while the girls were split—some admiring her, others not so much.
“She’s got mismatched eyes!” someone had claimed.
Wakamatsu barely gave it any thought. Heterochromia wasn’t common, and people loved exaggerating things. He wasn’t about to get swept up in whatever nonsense they were spewing.
Then, during basketball practice, the gym doors slid open.
Momoi entered first. And then—her.
The air shifted.
A girl with mismatched eyes—one green, one blue. Dark brown hair framing her face, her expression unreadable yet striking. Her skin, deeper-toned than most students at Tōō, complemented her presence—unshaken, effortless, natural.
Wakamatsu felt his heartbeat slow for half a second before slamming back into rhythm, harder than before.
Tch. What the hell?
It wasn’t like him to react to someone like this. He wasn’t the type to get distracted by appearances, to feel anything over a first meeting. Yet, for some reason, he found himself staring just a second too long, gripping the fabric of his jersey just a little tighter.
He forced himself to look away, exhaling sharply.
And yet, as much as he told himself that, he couldn’t ignore the way his mind kept replaying that moment—the way she stepped into the gym, completely unaware that she had just turned his entire world upside down.
