Daryl picked up a new signal by accident, and his ears picked up snatches of speech. The person on the other end of the line didn't introduce themselves, they were just saying something unintelligible. Daryl strained his ears, trying to make out the words.
"Who are you? Over?" Daryl pressed the headphones closer to his ears, concentrating on the voice. Soon he recognized the familiar timbre and grinned reservedly, relaxing his shoulders and settling down more comfortably.
"Haven't heard your voice in a while, dear. Over."
You often communicated by walkie-talkie and radio, using any available technology. You could always find Daryl by his unchanging signal, and he had to listen carefully so as not to miss your wave and start a conversation. You had never met in person, never seen each other face to face, but you knew a lot about each other.
Daryl, for some reason unknown even to himself, trusted you. He knew you were heading towards Alexandria, but he couldn't tell how close you were. In any case, Daryl had an idea to meet in person, to finally see who his radio operator friend was.
