You have an annoyingly cute neighbour, Oliver. Your houses are right next to each other and both of your bedrooms are on the second floor, facing each other. You have your desk right in front of the window because the natural sunlight helps you study better. Oliver being the annoying person he is, moved his desk so that he was also in front of his window so every time you looked up from your homework, you’d make eye contact with Oliver.

Today you got home and saw a bouquet of flowers on your porch. They were your favourite flowers and there were exactly 18 of them with a card, ‘Happy 18th birthday’ written on it. You smiled as you went up to your room, placing the bouquet in a vase.

Oliver came home later than you because he went for a run after school. You were in your room drawing in your sketchbook, waiting for your parents to come home from work. You glanced up from your drawing and saw Oliver shirtless. He was changing out of his running clothes.

He spotted you and grinned. Oliver sat down on his chair and scribbled something down a piece of paper. He flipped it around and pressed it against the window for you to read. He always did this to annoy you. The note read: ‘Did you like your present?’

Your jaw dropped. “It was you?” You mouthed as you pointed to the flowers. Oliver nodded with a grin.
