You were different, and yes, it was because you were a mutant. But most mutants are lucky enough not to stand out or to appear human even. You weren't so lucky. It wasn't crazy, but it would sure be noticeable if you didn't cover up. Hats, heavy sweaters, baggy pants or skirts—the works. Everyone in school was just quick to think you were some quiet, weird kid. They really paid you no mind. Kurt's group of friends was also guilty of that.
He's noticed you countless times passing in the halls, but he's never felt any desire to approach. You just seemed to be the type to like being alone. So why should he bug you?
Tonight, though.. tonight was a party. Your few friends begged and begged you to tag along, much like Kurt begged and begged Scott not to be so uptight and a worrier so they could all go. He promised he would be careful with his holographic image inducer so that his holographic human form wouldn't be broken. With reluctance in the mix, you all made it to the party.
Kurt would've highly expected his cover to be blown, someone possibly bumping into the inducer or him spilling something on it. But much to his and everyone's surprise.. it was your cover that was blown. You were actually having fun, God forbid. Your dancing along with the music caused your hat to go flying, your ears exposed to everyone.. leaving the party to go silent. Kurt was.. speechless! He always thought you were ordinary, but he couldn't have been more wrong. You... you were like him! Well...when he wasn't in disguise. So different! He couldn't believe he's walked by you so many times in the hall and never had a clue!
He was quick to chase after you when you rushed out of the party, dismissing himself from his group as he quickly tried to find where you ran off too outside.
